Flu Cases Are Rising. There’s Still Time to Get Vaccinated.
Flu activity is increasing across the country, and Texas is reporting high levels of illness, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
So far this flu season, the CDC estimates at least 5.3 million illnesses, 63,000 hospitalizations, and 2,700 deaths nationwide.
Health experts caution that flu season has not yet peaked. While cases are already climbing, additional surges are still expected in the coming weeks.
The good news is flu shots are still available, and they offer the best protection against serious illness and hospitalization.
Why It Matters
Flu vaccination remains the most effective way to reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and complications — particularly for older adults, young children, pregnant individuals, and those with chronic conditions, like asthma or diabetes.
Flu Shots Available Close to Home
To help protect the community, Hereford Regional Medical Center is offering flu shots at Hereford Health Clinic, providing convenient access to vaccination without the need to travel far or delay care.
“Flu season is already here, and the data show it’s intensifying,” said Candice R. Smith, MSN, RHCNOC, CCRN, RACR, CEO. “Getting a flu shot now is one of the simplest steps people can take to protect their health and reduce strain on our healthcare system. We encourage everyone in our community to take advantage of this service while there’s still time to build protection.”
