Hereford Donors Needed as Blood Supplies Reach Critical Levels

Today, blood collection organizations are reporting dangerously low supplies, and the American Red Cross has declared a national blood supply crisis for only the second time in its history. Donations have fallen to a four-year summer low, putting added pressure on the supply hospitals rely on every day.
Your blood donation can help!

Blood Is Needed Every Day

A transfusion may be needed after a serious crash, during a complicated delivery, before or after major surgery, or throughout treatment for cancer and other illnesses. Because blood cannot be manufactured or stored indefinitely, every community depends on people who are willing to donate regularly.

Coffee Memorial Blood Center provides blood products throughout the High Plains. Donations made in Hereford or Amarillo help strengthen hospitals across Texas.

“Blood donations support patients across the country,” said Candice R. Smith, MSN, RHCNOC, CCRN, RACR, chief executive officer of Deaf Smith County Hospital District. “We encourage eligible Hereford residents to help strengthen the broader blood supply by scheduling a donation. Consistent community participation helps ensure blood is available wherever and whenever patients need it.”
