HRMC responding to uptick in Deaf Smith County patients needing COVID-19 diagnostic tests
The statewide surge in COVID-19 cases rightly prompted an increase in need for diagnostic testing in Deaf Smith County, with demand rising sharply across the Texas panhandle and South Plains. Our clinical team is responding directly to patient need and reporting results as soon as test results are received. Our goal is turnaround within 72 hours. We know how difficult it is to self-isolate and miss work because of the need to wait for test results.
However, because of the growth in cases statewide and increased demand for testing, the external labs on which HRMC depends for analyzing test samples are under significant pressure. As a result, reporting is delayed. HRMC is currently examining how to diversify testing resources to ensure timely results.
Everyone who is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or has been exposed to someone with the virus should seek testing.
