World Blood Donor Day: Give Blood, Save Lives
June 14 is World Blood Donor Day, an annual opportunity to recognize and thank the countless volunteers who have donated blood, and a call to regularly donate and help save lives in your community.
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood or platelets, but only about three percent of Americans donate blood each year. Blood is essential for surgeries, cancer treatments, accident victims, chronic illnesses, and a host of other treatments and procedures. By donating blood even once, you can save up to three lives, and most donors can give blood up to six times per year.
For 20 years, World Blood Donor Day has been a reminder that donating blood saves lives and that regular blood donations are critical to ensure Deaf Smith County’s blood supplies stay at healthy levels.
Consider becoming a blood donor and find a blood drive or donation center near you here.
