What is a Nurse Practitioner?
Hereford Regional Medical Center’s team includes 12 qualified and knowledge nurse practitioners (NPs) who are foundational to our ability to deliver great care in our hospital and clinic.
In addition to possessing a bachelor’s degree in nursing, all nurse practitioners have earned a master’s degree and passed a rigorous national NP board certification exam. NPs are qualified health care professionals able to diagnose and treat patients, order tests, and prescribe medication, just like a physician would.
“We’re extremely proud of our nurse practitioner team, both for their skills and dedication to our patients,” said Deaf Smith County Hospital interim CEO Candice Smith, MSN, RHCNOC, CCRN. “We wouldn’t be able to provide all of the great care and services we offer patients without our outstanding team of nurse practitioners.”
Nurse practitioners provide needed capacity that allows the hospital and clinic to meet our community’s care needs. All Hereford NPs operate at the height of their nursing license and are capable of working independently and in collaboration with our physicians. NPs provide excellent care for patients of all ages, from primary and preventative care to acute care.
Our team-based approach to care means our physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses are in regular communication about patient care to make sure our patients’ needs are met appropriately and in a timely manner.
When you see a member of our care team, you can be assured you are seeing an experienced, highly trained professional who cares about you and your health.
