Employee Spotlight: Esmerelda Florez, LMSW
Part of healthcare is helping people navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives with dignity, support, and understanding. At Hereford Regional Medical Center, that work often begins with people like Esmerelda Florez.
Director of Social Services Esmerelda Florez, LMSW, has been part of the Hereford Regional Medical Center family since 2015. As a Licensed Master Social Worker, she is trained to help patients and families navigate complex situations such as post-hospital discharge planning, accessing community resources, and getting emotional support during medical care.
Esmerelda also holds the credential Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, which means she is specially trained to support individuals and families dealing with substance use and recovery challenges. She is currently working toward becoming an LCSW-S, an advanced credential that allows social workers to provide clinical counseling services and supervise other social workers in the field.
Through this training and experience, Esmerelda plays a critical role in helping our patients and families understand their options, connect with the services needed, and receive support both inside the hospital and throughout the community.
Whether helping a family understand a difficult situation, coordinating services, or simply offering reassurance, she approaches every interaction with compassion and patience.
“Esmerelda goes above and beyond for our patients each and every day,” said Candice R. Smith, MSN, RHCNOC, CCRN, RACR, CEO of Deaf Smith County Hospital District. “Her dedication extends not only within the hospital, but also through our Clinic and Community Paramedicine Program, where she makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. Esmerelda never turns down an opportunity to help someone in need. Her compassion, willingness to serve, and positive spirit are evident in every interaction. She is truly a blessing to work with, and we are grateful for the care and commitment she brings to our patients, our community, and our team.”
Colleagues see that same spirit every day.
“Esmerelda has a bright, bubbly personality. She is always so accommodating and eager to help our patients and their families,” said Kay Gudgell, MSN, RN, chief nursing officer. “She is personable, makes people feel at ease, and people just open up to her. Esme is always willing to assist in whatever way she can, from serving a meal to delivering refreshments or explaining regulations or other complex situations. She does this with eagerness and compassion. I have never witnessed a reluctance to help anyone in need. She is always one of the first to say, ‘how can I help?’ It is my privilege to call her my coworker and friend.”
Employees like Esmerelda represent the heart of healthcare. Through her compassion, dedication, and unwavering willingness to serve, Esmerelda helps ensure that care in Hereford is not only accessible, but deeply personal.
