American Heart Month: Caring for Your Heart Close to Home in Hereford
When was your last heart check-up?
February is American Heart Month, a reminder that heart disease remains one of the leading health risks for adults in the U.S. — and that early detection and consistent care matter. The good news: you don’t have to leave Hereford to get expert cardiology care.
Through a partnership with the Cardiology Center of Amarillo, Hereford Regional Medical Center offers the My Heart Health program, bringing cardiology specialists on-site once a month to provide comprehensive heart care close to home.

Why Regular Heart Check-Ups Matter
Many heart conditions develop gradually and without obvious symptoms. Regular screenings help identify concerns early — when they’re most treatable — and support long-term heart health through proactive care and lifestyle guidance.
American Heart Month is a good time to check in, especially if you:
- Have a family history of heart disease
- Manage high blood pressure or cholesterol
- Take heart-related medications
- Haven’t had a heart exam in several years
Everyday Steps That Support Heart Health
Clinical care matters, but daily habits play a major role in heart health, too. Simple steps like eating balanced meals, staying active, and managing stress can reduce risk and improve overall well-being. Your provider can help you connect the dots between lifestyle choices and heart health outcomes during your visit.
5 Questions to Ask at Your Heart Health Check-Up
Asking the right questions helps you get more value from your appointment and better understand your heart health.
- What is my risk for heart disease based on my family history?
- What do my cholesterol numbers mean for my heart health?
- What lifestyle changes would have the biggest impact for me?
- How often should I be screened, and which tests do you recommend?
- What warning signs should I watch for between visits?
There are no “small” questions when it comes to your heart.
