Make Breast Cancer Screening a Priority: Mobile Mammography Coming to Hereford Regional Medical Center Oct. 28
A busy schedule can make it easy to put preventive healthcare at the bottom of the to-do list. But when it comes to breast health, making time for recommended screening is important.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Hereford Regional Medical Center is making it more convenient for women in our community to access mammography close to home.
Harrington Breast Center will provide mobile mammography screenings at Hereford Regional Medical Center on Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To schedule an appointment or ask about pricing, call Harrington Breast Center at 806-212-1905.
Why Mammograms Matter
Breast cancer does not always cause noticeable symptoms in its early stages. That is one reason routine screening is important.
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that women at average risk of breast cancer receive a screening mammogram every two years from ages 40 through 74. Screening recommendations may differ for people with certain personal or family histories or other factors that increase breast cancer risk, so it is important to discuss your individual needs with your clinician.
A screening mammogram looks for signs of breast cancer before symptoms develop. If you notice a new or concerning breast change, however, do not wait for your next routine screening appointment to seek care.
Know What Changes Deserve Attention
Breasts naturally change over time, and not every change is caused by cancer. Still, knowing what is normal for you can make it easier to recognize something new.
Possible warning signs of breast cancer include:
- A new lump in the breast or underarm
- Thickening or swelling of part of the breast
- Changes in the size or shape of the breast
- Dimpling or irritation of breast skin
- Redness or flaky skin around the breast or nipple
- Nipple changes or discharge other than breast milk
- Pain in any area of the breast
Many of these symptoms can also be caused by conditions other than cancer, but new or unexplained changes should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
Preventive Care Starts With a Conversation
Breast health is also part of the broader preventive care and women’s health services available through Hereford Health Clinic. If you are unsure whether you are due for a mammogram, have questions about your risk, or have noticed a change in your breast, talk with our team at Hereford Health Clinic.
And if it is time for your screening, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a good time to get it on the calendar.
