Hospital Investments Yield Strong Patient Satisfaction Scores

Data reveals high marks from patients treated at Hereford Regional Medical Center.

Patients’ satisfaction scores from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services are collected from patients following care at the hospital.  The reports highlight Hereford Regional Medical Center’s continued improvement in nearly every major patient-reported satisfaction category — and performance outpacing many other hospitals in Texas.

The continued improvements demonstrate our consistent strong focus on quality improvement.  The results particularly reflect HRMC’s discharge planning process and ongoing patient follow-up with a robust community paramedicine program involving EMS, social work, case management, and medical staff.

What Patients Are Saying

Patients reported positive experiences in key areas:

  • How well our nurses and doctors communicate
  • How clearly discharge instructions are explained
  • How smoothly care transitions happen
  • How quickly staff respond
  • How clean and quiet the hospital feels

In many of these categories, HRMC’s scores are among the state’s top performers and continue to trend upward quarter after quarter.

These improvements show up most clearly in the discharge information and care transitions scores — two of HRMC’s strongest areas.

“These results reflect the work our teams put in long before a patient walks out the door,” said Candice R. Smith, MSN, RHCNOC, CCRN, RACR, CEO of Deaf Smith County Hospital District. “We’ve built a discharge process that starts at admission, deploys an award-winning community paramedicine program, and keeps patients and families informed every step of the way. When people understand their care plan and feel supported through transitions, outcomes improve — and this data shows that our approach is working.”

Why the Scores Are Improving

Over the last several years, HRMC prioritized major innovations in how our teams plan for a patient’s discharge — which means it starts the moment a patient is admitted.

This approach helps ensure:

  • Clear discharge instructions when patient leave
  • Families understand what comes next
  • Follow-up care is scheduled
  • Questions are answered before the patient leaves our hospital

Our award-winning community paramedicine program also ensures:

  • Medication access and treatment plan adherence following discharge.
  • What, if any, additional care is needed to avoid complications or readmission to the hospital.
  • Patients understand post hospitalization care instructions

How HRMC Compares with the Rest of Texas

The data compares HRMC to every other hospital in the state. In that statewide comparison, HRMC consistently performs above the median.

Why This Matters for Families

A good hospital experience isn’t just about the time spent in a hospital bed — it’s about what happens next.

Patients feel the difference when:

  • They know what medications to take
  • They understand warning signs to watch for
  • They have follow-up care arranged

These improvements mean safer discharges, clearer expectations, and a better recovery at home or at the next level of care.
