There are a lot of people sick with the flu all across the state. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state Department of Health Services are reporting higher-than-average flu activity. Flu cases are higher than they’ve been in 10 years.

More than 1100 pneumonia and flu-related deaths have been reported in Texas since the start of flu season in September. Most of these deaths have occurred in our residents over age 65.

If you haven’t had a flu shot yet, it’s not too late. The vaccine is highly effective at preventing the flu and at minimizing the severity of symptoms if you do catch it. The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older get the flu vaccine every year.

Make an appointment with our clinic to get your flu shot today. Nurse practitioners are available from 8 am to 8 pm, and we offer walk-in hours until 4:30.

What if you think you have the flu? Common symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and fatigue. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, make an appointment with our clinic as soon as possible. There are treatments available to lessen the severity of symptoms.

And, if you’re experiencing any emergency symptoms, including shortness of breath, dehydration, or severe muscle pain weakness, come to our emergency room or call 911 immediately.
